It was an honor for the Capital Pacific team to prepare a meal for thirty-plus families staying at the Ronald McDonald House-East (RMDH), on the campus of Legacy Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon.
The team prepared and served a next-level taco salad bar (complete with brownies and ice cream), for the families staying at the RMDH, and per Allie Burgess, Financial Analyst, “…was an incredibly humbling and heartwarming experience, and we hope we were able to provide some sense of comfort by providing a home-cooked meal.” RMDH provides temporary housing and support for families of hospitalized children fighting life-threatening illnesses, who are often away from their home and support systems for an average of ten nights, and over 600 miles from home. The CP team is already planning their next meal and can’t wait to do it again.
How the Ronald McDonald House serves its communities:
- Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington serve nearly 6,000,000 children and families annually.
- For every staff member there are 41 volunteers.
- RMDH Belief: Our Houses are built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child — not where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night to rest. Families are invited to stay at our Houses for free and offered meals and snacks, which removes a major barrier for families who may not be able to find alternative housing. In Portland, the average hotel costs $144 per night. At our Houses, it’s always $0.
